Ford reveals more powerful EcoBoost engine for F-150 pickup

2017 F-150 pickups will have more power and better fuel efficiency when they go on sale this fall because of the vehicle’s redesigned 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine and all-new 10-speed transmissions.

Ford said the redesigned V6 will produce 450 pound feet of torque, or 30 more than the outgoing engine, while maintaining 365 horsepower. According to Ford, that makes the engine the most powerful V6 gasoline or diesel engine on the market.

That will give Ford a way to continue to sell more of its popular F-Series pickups, which have been the top-selling car or truck in America for 39 years in a row.

The EcoBoost engine, first introduced on the F-150 in 2011, has become a popular engine option for Ford. By July, Ford expects sales of the engine on F-150 pickups will surpass one million. EcoBoost engines now account for 60% of Ford’s overall F-150 sales while Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 engine and a non-EcoBoost V6 engine account for the remainder of the sales.
