Ford and Google teaming up to make self-driving cars

Ford Motor Co. closed out 2015 with multiple developments related to self-driving cars, as the company seeks to redefine itself from a vehicle maker to a mobility company.
Yahoo Autos reported Ford (NYSE: F) and Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) will form a joint venture to build self-driving cars, pushing both companies closer to a new business centered on automated ride sharing.

Though Ford is headquartered in Dearborn, Mich., it plays a huge role in Louisville’s manufacturing economy, with about 9,000 employees at its Kentucky Truck Plant on Chamberlain Lane and the Louisville Assembly Plant on Fern Valley Road.

Yahoo reported in early 2015 Google Co-founder Sergey Brin expressed interest in working with a manufacturing partner that would use the tech company’s self-driving system, which he said could eliminate about 33,000 annual deaths on American roads.
